Something I always enjoy is a visit to the strawberry patch! I’ve tried to go every year…here is our visit from 2013 (I was freshly cut from my surgery!), 2012, and 2010. It’s a fun thing to do and the kids both enjoy it. Kye was actually pretty bummed that he didn’t get to go last year with us and has specifically asked about going this year.
Sadly, our local patch got some kind of disease in the plants and decided to close down for good 🙁 Boo. I’d seen on Facebook where several people had gone out to another place about 45 min away from us. I figured if we wanted to try it out that NOW would be the time since that long of a drive isn’t something I’ll be able to do with a baby!
Strawberry season ended the end of May so I thought the sooner we went, the better. I asked Casey if she wanted to come along. She was in the waiting-on-baby phase of pregnancy and was wanting to soak up as much freedom and fun as she could before Carter’s arrival!
It turns out the place we went to wasn’t just a strawberry patch. It was a legit FARM! So much to do and such a fun visit!!! If you live in the Valdosta area be sure to check out Calhoun Produce!

The days of keeping things cheap are pretty much over…whatever Kye does Britt wants to do so they both wanted to have their own bucket to pick strawberries. Luckily you pay by the weight so it worked out fine! Kye would have picked strawberries ALL DAY LONG. I have SO many in my freezer ready for smoothies 🙂
I saw this dress at a used kid’s sale and snatched it up and have been saving it just for this occasion 🙂
Kye was really into picking the TINY strawberries. He thought they were so cute haha. Last year Britt smashed more than she picked but she was much, much better at being gentle this year and really focused her hunt on the “big daddy” strawberries!
They had a good bit of animals so once we were done picking we went over to check them out!
They also had a wonderful play area for the kids. It was nice and early in the morning so the heat hadn’t set in yet. Us pregnant ladies didn’t mind sitting while the kids played 🙂
Another fun thing they had set up were duck races. The kids would pump the levers and it’d make water shoot out and push the toy ducks down the pipes. Both kids really enjoyed it and I love unique, simple fun!
We checked out the barn to see more animals. They even offer pig races there!
Before finishing up we checked out The Bee House. It was very educational and interesting!

After learning these facts I for sure have a greater appreciation for bees!!!
They were in awe!
And it did kinda freak me out that the bee area was open to the outside. The bees could come and go as they pleased! Glad we didn’t get stung!
The benefit of having a pregnant mom and aunt is that we are mega down for some snacks. Originally I had planned to only get the strawberries (there isn’t an admission charge to get in! You just pay for what you pick!), but then they had home made treats. And I couldn’t resist. The kids each got a home made strawberry ice cream in a cone!
I got a home made fresh strawberry slushy and boiled peanuts. I know, random. But the salty craving was kicking and I grubbed out the whole ride home!
Casey even got some ice cream!
Calhoun Produce is a GREAT place to visit anytime of the year! We enjoyed our quiet morning together and am so glad we made the drive! They have strawberries from March – May; butter beans, peas and seasonal fruits and vegetables from June – October; they have a corn maze and other fun activities in the fall time; and they even do gift boxes for Christmas! I’m so glad we were able to go strawberry picking this year and that we kicked off the summer with such a fun adventure! One of my goals for the summer has been to have as much fun as possible with the kids and this was def a good start 🙂
