Brittlynn turned 14 months old on Feb 6th! Here is where she’s at compared to other toddlers her age according to What to Expect the Toddler Years!
This month I used random cute pictures I took throughout the month for her post…maybe someday I’ll get more organized with what pictures I use each month 😉 She REALLY loved her Cozy Coupe and I love all these pictures of her in it!!!
At 14 months old Britt is doing all the things a toddler her age should be able to do including:
- wave bye-bye
- stand alone
- put an object into a container
- use mama/dada intentionally (dada…not mama STILL)
- follow 1-step verbal command without gestures
She is also about to do everything a 14 month old will probably be able to do including:
- bend over and pick up an object
- walk well
She can do one of the things a toddler her age may possibly be able to do and that’s use an object in imitation. She cannot do the other thing in this category which is say three words.
Britt cannot do any of the things a toddler her age may even be able to do including:
- build a tower of two cubes (okay…I haven’t TRIED this one…)
- use 6 words or more
- run
- walk up steps (who is gonna let her try that?)
- follow a two-step verbal command without gestures
Majority of this chapter just didn’t interest me in the slightest but I did enjoy reading over these tips for toys that are appropriate for children Britt’s age:
- Toys that help build small-motor skills such as: simple puzzles, shape-sorters, pop-up toys
- Toys that help build large motor skills such as: balls, pull toys, push toys, riding toys, climbing toys
- Toys that stimulate the imagination: stuffed animals, dolls, board books, kitchen toys, dress-up clothes
- Toys that stimulate creativity: crayons with paper, painting, play clay
- Toys that encourage musical play: drums, etc
- Toys that encouraging learning about the grown-up world: dolls and accessories, house-hold and garden tools in kid sizes, pretend play items
The last part of this chapter talks about grandparents. My kids are SO blessed to see their extended family so often. Kye’s BEST friends are his cousins and it’s so sweet! I want to do a better job of keeping my kids in contact with my Dad. We live too far away to see each other often and visits are tough…his house is not quite kid-friendly for sure! Here is what the book recommends to keep in contact:
- Visit once or twice a year when possible
- Call and have the kids talk too! (Kye LOVES this!)
- Make a special photo album with pictures of family members the kids can’t see often so they can recognize them (we have one of these and Britt loves looking through it)
- Digital Audio Record their voices (post to come on the AWESOME gift Dad sent Kye!)
- Digital Video Record them as well…which is a great idea! I know Kye would enjoy watching videos of him with Grandpa. I won’t if I have any on my YouTube channel?
- Special gifts: Kye can make things to send to them and also be sure to make a big deal about things they send to him
- Travel with grandparents: I cannot ever see my dad going on a trip alone with the kids haha but ya never know 😉
