Tess’s 2 Month Well Visit

Tess had her two month well visit on October 2nd. I’m trying to keep her visits as “on track” as possible! I know once you get off track with them then you stay that way for awhile!

It fell on a Tuesday which meant Britt didn’t have school so she’d be tagging along to the appointment. Zach has been to EVERY SINGLE doctor appointment that requires shots. All of them! I do NOT like needles (hello: natural childbirth to avoid epidurals!) and I don’t want my kids to pick up on my anxiety about them so Zach handles shot duty and I leave the room. But for this visit he couldn’t come!!! I was super nervous about it but decided the best bet was to go at it solo. I adore Zach’s mom but she is more high anxiety than I am and I didn’t want her to freak out (she hated seeing the kids do survival swim so I’m sure she’d hate seeing shots too).

Our appointment was at 8:45 in the morning so we took Kye to school then headed that way! Miss Tess was sleeping like a champ in the car seat 🙂

Love seeing this poster!!! Have you had your whopping cough vaccine?

We had a MEGA long wait to be seen. Sometimes it just happens that way and I was thankful that Britt was being super patient about it all and that Tess just kept on sleeping! First off they did her stats. Her last appointment was at 2 weeks old so I was excited to see her growth 6 weeks later! At two months old Tess was 23 3/4 inches long (90th percentile), 11 lbs 4 oz (50th percentile) and had a head circumference of 15 1/8th inches (28th percentile). At her last appointment she had been 7 lbs 11 oz and 20 3/4 inches long so she’s grown 3 inches and gained 3 lbs 9 oz!

When compared to Kye and Britt at this same appointment: Britt was 24 inches long (90th percentile), 13 lbs 10 oz (90th percentile) and 15 inches for head circumference (25th percentile).

Kye was: 23 1/4 inches long (50th percentile), 13 lbs 15 oz (75th percentile), and 15.5 inches for head circumference (I didn’t ask the percentile on that but I’m sure it had to be 90th..kid always has had a big head!)

So Tess is my 2nd longest baby, but my smallest weight baby 🙂

Tess and Britt both did A-MAZING! Tess was awake mega early for her nap but she was calm and happy and didn’t fuss a single bit!!! Britt was worried about her and was so sweet watching over her and did a great job playing quietly.

We got to see Kelly, who is my favorite person ever 😉 She checked out Tess and said she is PERFECT!

Here’s some things we discussed:

  • I voiced my concerns about auto immune diseases for my girl’s with the strong family history (Zach’s Mom and sister). She said the BEST thing I can do for Tess (and Britt) is be hardcore about Vitamin D drops. They are finding a lot of links between bit d deficiency and auto immune diseases. I’m using these drops
and they are awesome! Zero mess! I just put a drop on my nipple and she gets it that way. I also started putting a drop into the big kid’s milk each morning. Why not right?
  • We talked about Tess’s little “elf ear” and Kelly said it was most likely folded in the womb and that’s why it’s pointed. She said it will fix itself some but may always come to a point
  • I asked about giving Tess probiotics
in order to help prevent thrush again and protect her from all the germs I know the big kids are bringing home. She said that it’s completely fine!
  • Tess was struggling with taking a bottle so I asked for any tips she might have as I was nervous about leaving for Hawaii…she recommended exclusively bottle feeding for a couple days. 24-48 hours. That she may struggle with it but that she WILL take it and that it’s best for me not to be in the room, or even in the house.
  • She said Tess should be eating 4-5 oz at each feeding at this age
  • I showed her how beautiful and round the back of Tess’s head is and asked for tips to avoid it getting flat. She basically just said to really focus on tummy time.
  • Tess spits up through her nose sometimes and Kelly said it’s normal as is her pooping very rarely. She said as long as when she does poop it’s not hard then it’s fine
  • The red spot on Tess’s eye is a stork bite and should fade with time
  • I think Tess’s legs stick out kinda funny but Kelly said they are fine (see even with a third baby I still ask random questions haha)

We talked a good bit about sleep training and she asked me to write up something for her to give to patients at the office with sleep training tips!!! How big of a compliment is that?!?! I’m truly honored!

I always have an amazing experience at our pediatrician and this visit was no different. I’m so thankful to have such healthy children and it’s something I NEVER take for granted!

I was nervous about the shots but Kelly was awesome and told me they’d send in an extra nurse so I could leave the room! Britt and I went and picked out treasures as their prizes for doing so well and Tess got her shots. OMG hearing her cry was horrible. She had a hard time calming back down afterwards and I felt so bad for her!!! I had a paci but she did NOT want it!

Since the appointment went so late I decided to make the move to the 3.5 hour schedule that day AND I decided to try bottle feeding since I knew she’d be really hungry and out of it from her shots. I know, crazy! But she did great with moving the schedule and took the bottle pretty well for that feeding

I did Tylenol for about 24 hours. She was VERY fussy and I could tell the spots were tender. I felt so bad for her and I hate seeing her upset (I think I get softer the more babies I have!). So I enjoyed extra cuddles with my sweet, healthy, girl!
