Brittlynn ~ 10 Months Old!

Brittlynn turned 10 months old on Oct 6th. This was the TOUGHEST time yet to get cute pictures. I tried two different times and still struggled. We’ve ALL been in a funk around here lately and this photo shoot just proves it 😉

Once again I’m using What to Expect the First Year to see where Britt is at compared to other babies her age.

This is probably my best one for the month?

At 10 months old Brittlynn can do everything a baby her age should be able to do including:

  • stand holding on to someone or something
  • pull up to the standing position from sitting
  • object if you try to take a toy away
  • say “mama” or “dada” indiscriminately (sadly, it’s ALWAYS dada)
  • play peekaboo
  • exchange back and forth gestures with you

Brittlynn can do all of the things a 10 month old will probably be able to do including:

  • get into a sitting position from stomach
  • play patty-cake (clap hands) or wave bye-bye
  • pick up a tiny object with any part of thumb and finger
  • walk holding on to furniture (cruise)
  • understand “no” (but not always obey it)

Brief moment of happiness

She cannot do any of the things a baby her age may possibly be able to do (so random?) including:

  • stand alone momentarily
  • say “dada” or “mama” discriminately
  • point to something to get needs met

Child just wants to be HELD

She can, however, do many of the things that a baby her age may even be able to do including:

  • indicates wants in ways other than crying
  • play ball (roll ball)
  • drink from cup independently
  • pick up a tiny object neatly with tips of thumb and forefinger
  • say one word other than “mama” and “dada”
  • respond to a one-step command (such as “give that to me” with one hand)

Things she can’t yet do in the may even be able to do category include:

  • stand alone well
  • use immature jargoning (gibberish sounds as if baby is talking in a foreign language)
  • walk well

2nd try

I really enjoyed the section of this chapter about weaning. My goal with Kye was only to nurse him for 6 months. I ended up extending that and going for nine months (he still had 2 bottles of breast milk a day until he was almost 1 year old though). With Brittlynn my goal for nursing was to nurse her until her first birthday. It’s CRAZY that I am almost to that goal already!!! If you are a nursing mother I HIGHLY recommend reading the advice on page 437. When to wean is a VERY personal decision and I think this book does a beautiful job of offering honest, yet non-judgemental, advice.

Kye wanted to get in the pictures too and was a crying mess himself haha

Another GREAT section in this chapter is about discipline. Of course everyone knows we spank in our household (here’s a post on WHY) and this book, like most of the media out there, doesn’t suggest spanking as a form of discipline. However, it still offers lots of wonderful insight into the importance of discipline. I recommend for all parents to read page 451 of the book. It’s several pages long and obviously I’m not going to copy it all here…but it’s REALLY worth reading. No matter what the age of your child (I personally just skipped over the anti-spanking section haha).

This sums up the experience nicely.

You can look back at Britt’s 9 month post here. You can also compare Britt’s 10 month post with Kye’s 10 month one. Here is his post! I’m so glad I read it too b/c we have been trying to get Britt to play with Kye’s cozy coupe (thinking it’s a good Christmas gift idea…) and she has been TERRIFIED of it. Turns out Kye was scared of it too at first! I texted Zach just now to tell him! It’s nice to know that she’s not just a wuss haha! I also couldn’t resist posting this picture of Kye from his 10 month post.  Love that laugh and that fuzzy hair 😉
