Three Months Old!

The big three month marker...which means I've made it halfway to my goal of nursing for 6 months! I can't imagine being ready to stop it now that I've finally gotten the hang of it but I have three more months to enjoy it before I worry with that!

Kye is on target with all the milestones this month. It's so funny b/c I never look at the list until I go to write this and I didn't even realize that the things he does he is "supposed" to be doing! As always, I'm using What to Expect The First Year

He does all the things in every category including:

  • lift head up 90 degrees while on stomach
  • laugh out loud
  • squeal in delight
  • bring both hands together
  • smile spontaneously
  • follow an object held 6 inches above face while moving it back and forth
  • hold head steady when upright
  • on stomach, raise chest, supported by arms
  • roll over one way (well he CAN do it...haha)
  • grasp a rattle held to backs or tips of fingers
  • pay attention to a small object
  • bear some weight on legs when held upright (his new FAVORITE thing to do!)
  • reach for an object
  • keep head level with body when pulled to sitting
  • turn in direction of voice, espcially mommy's
  • say "ah-goo" or similar vowel, consonant combinations
  • razz (make a wet razzing sound)

Teething?

I've been wondering if Kye may be showing some early signs of teething. I figured since I have this book out, which is rare for me, I might as well look it up! It's normal for babies to begin teething around this age even though he may not get a tooth until he's 7 months old! Here are the symptoms as described in W.T.E.T.F.Y:
  • Drooling: Check! It just started..yuck!
  • Chin or face rash: Nope but at least I know if he gets it that it's normal
  • Gagging/Coughing: He's started to do this more often and the book says it's because he's producing more saliva
  • Biting: YES! Luckily it's not on my breasts, yet, but he will chomp down on his paci rather than suck it and he will also chomp down on his hands and burp rags
  • Pain: Thankfully I haven't noticed that any of his symptoms are causing pain
  • Irritability: I remember when Stevie was first teething and they were over at our house she was NOT herself. Again, Kye's not to this point yet but it's not saying he won't get there!
  • Refusal to Feed: He's become more fickle about eating, especially with the bottle. With the bottle he acts like he doesn't want it or will chew on the nipple rather than suck. With the breast he starts crying as soon as he sees it and wants it badly...then he will often suck longer than he needs to just for comfort. Both are teething signs.
  • Diarrhea: He has had some looser stools but he's breastfed and so his stools are always pretty pudding-like! He also is pooping less, sometimes only once a day so I wouldn't say the potential teething has caused any issues here.
  • Low-grade Fever: Since he's been born I've only taken his temperature twice and he's never had one!
  • Wakefullness: He hasn't been waking too badly during the night...he did wake up the other night at like 4 which is rare but he was able to go back to sleep.
  • Gum hematoma:It says his gums may have a bluish lump but they look fine to me!
  • Ear pulling, cheek rubbing: He isn't doing either one but it's good to know to look for it as ear pulling can also mean ear infection which is common when teething.

I've been LOVING my new camera and managed to capture some pretty great shots of Mr. Kye...the big 3 month old boy! Enjoy!
