After picking out our little tree we headed home to get it decorated before Kye went to bed. With all of our stuff in storage at Mrs. Charlotte’s we just grabbed a couple boxes of Christmas stuff and figured we’d have enough to make a decent tree. Unfortunately many of the lights weren’t cooperating! Isn’t that what always happens?

putting only our favorite ornaments out this year
We may not be going all out for Christmas, but I’m thankful we still did a tree as Kye LOVED getting to decorate it. I couldn’t unpack the ornaments fast enough to keep him busy! He did break a ball or two when he thought they were actual balls and decided to throw them but it’s a memory right? π

Since it is a smaller tree we only used special ornaments that mean something to us. Every year I buy a cookie dough ornament for “Zach” signifying something special that happened that year and we try to get an ornament on every vacation. So it is a memory tree this year! Once we are settled in the new house and start getting back to having money (someday???) I want to do one Christmas tree of JUST our memory ornaments then another fancy tree π
The tree looked cute once we got it all decorated. Sadly, it fell over a couple days later. Only 3 ornaments were broken and the most important one is fixable. However, with Zach’s back being so hurt we didn’t want to risk him hurting himself trying to straighten the tree. This is what it looks like.
Isn’t that pitiful? Every time I plug in the lights I wonder why I’m bothering! But hey, it’s up and Kye loves it. He constantly points at it and says “ohhhh” and says “arg” to the pirate ornament. He doesn’t care that it’s not straight and that the ornaments are placed so great and that Mommy is totally embarrassed to be even posting it on her blog. He loves it and that’s good enough for me this year π
During the decorating fun we always make hot chocolate and play Christmas music. I was in “cool mom” mode so I let Kye try the hot choc. And duh, he loved it. So we had to say “bye bye” to that pretty quickly!
taking that last sip π
In keeping up with my traditions I took Kye to Hobby Lobby to pick out an ornament for his tree. I like the idea of each child having their own tree in their room to decorate however they want. I got his started last year with a couple of ornaments for him but from now on he’ll pick out one to add each year. This year he picked a random blue car and he basically just wanted to play with it. It was a struggle but I finally got him to put it up on the tree!
I was holding up the tree for the picture and he snatched off the car again!
His monkey ornament from last year is broken, waiting with the other broken ones to be fixed!
I even dug out one little decoration for his room π
No Christmas tour of homes for me this year that’s for sure!!! Writing this made me realize I don’t think we’ve even watered that tree in several days, I hope it can live for Christmas!!!
