Now that summer has ended I’m shifting back to a monthly family recap. Our lives are just not as exciting during the school year so I can’t really justify a weekly post!

The big news this month was the Eclipse. At first I went from “who cares” to “omg it’s scary” to “wow this is gonna be cool.” I ended up getting glasses and I’m SO GLAD that I did! I heard from many friends locally that because of the amount we were able to see that many of the diy things didn’t work. The glasses worked great!

It was so funny when you put the glasses on it was COMPLETELY DARK.

So many of these exact pics flooded social media that day haha

Zach ended up being home for it. Our visual time fell during naps. The older kids had a half day so they got home and watched it but Tess slept through it.

This is what it looked like through the glasses, at least the best I could get with a picture. But it was REALLY AWESOME. It lived up to the hype in my opinion! We did not have ANY darkness in our area as far as the sky goes but it was still really visible through the glasses!

Here’s a video of us viewing it!

This month we also had our family photos, which you can see here. We had to reschedule twice but it was SO WORTH IT! Lindsay is amazing and we had a great time. All the kids (and parents ha!) were in great moods for the session and the weather was perfect too πŸ™‚

Playing with filters while waiting and this was hilarious haha

Smarties y’all. Smarties are the KEY to successful sessions! That a bribery for a yummy treat after πŸ˜‰

Ice cream sundaes at 10 am πŸ˜‰ Cool parents! (And duh we are obsessed with the deals on the McDonalds app!)

My treat. Gah I love me an egg mcmuffin. Especially with peanut butter on it!

Nothing like a little Lowe’s trip on a Saturday πŸ™‚

Can you find Kye πŸ˜‰

When we first built our home back in 2010 we painted our exterior gray and wanted a blue door. When we submitted our paint colors to be approved we hadn’t picked a door color yet. So I take full responsibility in the issues that came about when our door was blue originally and our neighbors freaked out. But c’mon guys. It looked good! You can read the full story here but long story short…we changed the color of the door to a dark gray and it’s been that way since. However, over the years I’ve noticed that we were trendsetters because brightly colored doors have been popping up all over our neighborhood. With Zach redoing our porch we decided it was time to check back in with the HOA. They were AWESOME and immediately said we were good to go on repainting the door blue again! YAY!!!!

So many birthday parties, so much pizza πŸ˜‰

The kids had a spirit week at school and honestly y’all I can’t keep up with all the themed days and why they are supposed to wear what each day. I do pretty good making sure they have what they are supposed to wear. It’s funny b/c Kye is super into it and Britt just isn’t?

Something to do with sunglasses

hat day!

spirit day (I love that Britt insisted on wearing the FSU stuff)

Long days call for lots of bubbles!

We love having Keeli’s crew living so close! I hate that sports have taken over our lives right now and we’re not able to hang as much πŸ™

In case anyone ever wondered if our ball pit still gets use…all three kids can fit!

Tess misses the older kids SO MUCH while they are at school! She will run up and hug on them and say “I lost you! I missed you so much!”

Book club met this month at Smokin’ Pig and we discussed Everything I Never Told You. We all really enjoyed it and it’s a great one to add to your reading list!

It was also a super exciting month of getting MATCHED!!!! I loved getting to share our news with everyone πŸ™‚

Kye finished reading all of the Chronicles of Narnia series while I just read The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe and we had a movie night and watched it together! It has such great meaning in the story and is really a wonderful family book to read together. Of course Zach said I had to reference the awesome digital short πŸ˜‰

The kids have been ALL about our swings lately which is great! I think now that Britt can really swing on her own she enjoys it more and Kye’s competitive side comes out and they have a lot of competitions to see who can go higher πŸ˜‰

Gotta love Prime Day deliveries haha! I had some GREAT deals on Amazon’s Prime Day this year! I’ve got a good start on Christmas FOR SURE!

Zach also finally got an ac unit for the playroom. It’s gonna be a beast to install but it’ll be so great for it not to be so HOT in that room and it’ll help our electric bill too!

I have a whole post devoted to lunch box ideas but this year I’m doing things differently. Now that I have both kids eating lunch at school I’m trying to keep it simple! I have a list of options for the “main item” and then mix and match the fillers! This is one I do once a week…it’s SO easy and they LOVE it! Lay out bread and take off crust then put peanut butter and jelly on it and roll it up. Freeze it then slice the next morning and it’s defrosted by lunch!

I also use these for lunch once a week! I make a HUGE batch and freeze them then just warm up and wrap in foil and they stay warm till lunch time too. These are also great if your school is peanut free πŸ™‚

I made this for the first time this month and cooked up some fried rice with it and we loved it!

When we built our house we did it VERY basic to make it as affordable as possible. Zach is handy and we knew we could slowly upgrade things through the years. Right now we’re in more of a need to update rather than want to kinda place with the house as there are things that are simply needing change. Our front porch railing has been warped for a few years now and it just looked AWFUL. Zach completely rebuilt it himself and the finished product is beautiful and WAY better quality than the original builder used!

While Zach works on the bigger projects I try to keep the decor of our house always fresh too. I never want things to look dated and it’s HARD. When you live in your home and see it all the time it’s hard to get outside of what you’re used to and think “does this need to change?” I did a few little changes here and there throughout the house and am so happy with the updates!

Ended up sticking with this second option instead and used the seahorse in a lantern on the porch!

(all pieces are from Hobby Lobby)

Kye asks a lot of questions which is a GREAT thing and I try my best to answer them but sometimes it’s great to have other sources to use, especially ones that always refer back to God’s Word. I picked up this book this month (How Do You Know God is Real?) and plan to work through it with Kye! I’ve only heard great things so I think it’ll help answer a lot of his questions.

Zach has been getting sick SO OFTEN and we know it’s a lot to do with his weakened immune system thanks to the infusions he does for his MS (you can read more about that here). I have had so many friends suggest using oils and oh my goodness. He legit hasn’t been sick AT ALL since I starting using them for him!!!

I use Young Living and started ordering each month, if anyone ever wants anything I’m happy to share my discount and can add items to my monthly order πŸ™‚

I made this blender bottle and Zach rolls it on his feet each morning!

I’ve been diffusing a lot more too especially in Tess’s room and Zach’s been adding the lemon to his water (and I’ve been adding the Grapefruit to mine).

Cedarwood on Zach’s feet has also been helping him sleep!

I’m adding to my collection monthly and am ALL ABOUT suggestions and recommendations of what to add!

I post a lot of my outfits each day in my IG Stories and a friend of mine reached out and suggested I should apply for “like to know it.” I applied and was accepted! It’s a big honor as it’s not something I expected AT ALL but I’m also nothing close to a fashion blogger haha Can’t you just picture me in some weird poses outside and making Zach take all the pictures for me? No way!

I tried to link to the app in my stories but it was a pain and I didn’t like how it linked to WAY more expensive versions of the stuff I was wearing. So my plan right now is to incorporate a little “Emily’s Closet” section in my monthly posts. I’ll include as many links as I can to what I’m wearing and this may eventually become it’s own post too since these monthly recaps already take so much dang time to write πŸ˜‰

Here’s what I wore in August including links when I could fine em (anything purchased via links will result in a small commission, thank you for supporting my blog!):

Shirt: I’ve bought a couple of these b/c I LOVE it so much!

Pants: These fit AMAZING. They have some stretch and are a great length (and on sale right now!)

Shoes: I wear these Converse allll the time too πŸ™‚

Shirt:I’m obsessed with these shirts. I own like every color haha they are a little “fancier” feeling than cotton and fit SO well! And they are on sale right now too (time to grab some more ha!)

Shorts: Love the lace detail! I got mine clearance last year but these are similar and a great deal!

Shoes: I’m pretty picky about shoes b/c of my foot issues but these Crocs flip flops are always comfortable

Dress: I sent it back b/c it’s just too long but if you’re taller it’s ADORABLE!

Top: simple black sweater (similar to pictured)

Shorts: So random but NY&Co shorts are amazing. Perfect length and don’t wrinkle!

Shoes: These are my absolute favorites. I can wear ’em all day at Disney and never hurt! Pricey, but worth it.

Purse: Love the stripes!

Dress: I’ve had since before I was pregnant with Britt and wore as a maternity look ha! It’s Gap Factory originally!

Sweater: I’ve also had for a long time but here’s similar from Old Navy

Shoes: I don’t wear ’em often b/c of my foot pain but who doesn’t love Crocs Sexi Flips?

I mean this dress is from who knows when? Maybe it’s legit vintage? Or maybe my grandma was just always stylish πŸ˜‰ Love wearing her looks!!! I hope I can pass along my clothes to MY granddaughters and they will actually want to wear it all too!

Cardigan: Old Navy (and so soft!)

Turns out Nana either had more of a chest than I do so she could hold the dress up better ooooor she just liked to show off the ladies haha I was pretty embarrassed by how showy it was!

Shirt: Mine is from Old Navy and I can’t find it but this is similar!

Vest: Mine is from Gap Outlet a couple years ago but this one might be cuter and is cheaper so I may need to update mine ha!

Skirt: Also from my closet from wayyy back, also originally Old Navy!

Top: Express also years ago (but man I wish I could buy more now b/c I love it!)

Pants: Hands down my favorite white jeans. Same as the pink ones above, great fit and stretch and length. And currently on sale!

Earrings: Yes. $1!

Bracelet was my Mom’s from the 80s!

Shoes: Old Navy (no longer in stock)

Dress: New York and Co hand me down from Casey πŸ˜‰

Kimono: For size reference this is a small

Family Fun: August

August was such a busy month! Transitioning from summer to school but still trying to squeeze in as much fun as possible πŸ™‚

We celebrated Zach’s birthday

And finished up all our home study paper work

I got glasses in 2nd grade. I was watching an episode of Full House about when Stephanie learned that she needed glasses and realized I needed them too haha. True story! Turns out I was pretty much blind. Like my worst fear growing up was that I’d get kidnapped in my sleep and wouldn’t have my glasses to see to escape haha.

I was pretty pumped to get lasik when Zach and I were engaged (2006). Well. That didn’t go so well (You can see my post about that experience here) and I had to have it done again. I’ve had mega dry eye issues ever sense and have these things in my tear ducts to help produce tears. Overall though I can see pretty decent. Every time I have a baby my vision gets worse though (something I wish I’d known PRIOR to freaking Lasik). I got glasses a few years ago just for night driving because I have MEGA bad halo issues. Even those glasses weren’t working after I had Tess and it just got worse and worse to the point that even driving during the day was tough b/c I couldn’t read anything. I finally broke down and went into the eye dr and, yup, I need glasses for driving. And for tv watching. And for blogging. Blah. I got two pairs so I can have one at the computer/tv and another in the car. I’m kinda rocking the nerd status right? πŸ˜‰ Z randomly loves them!

Ran into my fellow 4 eyes friend in the parking lot after I picked ’em up!

I was kinda doing the most this month in the non-mom duty life. It was my first time having NO KIDS at home with me (only two mornings a week) since I was pregnant with Britt. I get SO MUCH DONE on those mornings! I also took a good bit of time for myself in the evenings too this month which was great πŸ™‚

Casey and I got coffee with The Lunch Date Diva herself!

Aunt Karen lead an AWESOME lady’s class on prayer and Mrs. Charlotte, Casey and I grabbed dinner after πŸ™‚

We also had a wonderful time at Keeli’s baby shower!

And Zach surprised me with a DATE NIGHT! I swear we need to make these a more regular thing! I even budget for it each month but somehow the months slip by and we don’t have a date night!

He got us tickets to a fundraiser event that was a murder mystery dinner show…

It was def that local theater vibe. Which was FINE but it just wasn’t exactly what we were anticipating haha We still had a blast just were a little let down because we thought it’d be more of a legit mystery!

I’ve been working on my own personal goals with weight loss / getting healthy. Really I’m just wanting to kinda stay around the 130 range. I don’t want to stop enjoying food or having fun but wanna keep myself in check! I work out daily and do my best to count those calories but I’m def not depriving myself of anything I want either πŸ˜‰ All about that balance! It was fun to hit 130 on the scale and to sell all my “too big” shorts and go shopping for new clothes in my new sizes!

I took a celeb style quiz once and it said my results were Jessica Alba. I saw this in a magazine and realized that quiz was def right (hello we share a love for pineapples!).

I talked about this in an adoption summary post but I bought a pregnancy test this month b/c I had the WEIRDEST period ever. I was super crazy mega late so I took a test just to make sure. It was a weird mixture of emotions seeing that negative. I mean I don’t WANT to be pregnant but thinking that I’ll never WANT to see a positive again was sad too.

The big exciting news this month was that MY DAD and AUDREY CAME TO VISIT!!!! Y’all I couldn’t believe it!!!! I was soooooo excited! They mentioned coming down for a day to see us and I had it on my calendar but Dad’s job has caused plans to be canceled in the past so I didn’t get my hopes up. It was THE MOST PERFECT DAY! I wanted to make sure to be a great hostess and wanted to give them a taste of the south so I made cube steak in the crock pot along with butter beans, our fav corn on the cobb, mashed potatoes, my famous sweet tea and home made ice cream!

They arrived while the girls were napping. Kye skipped nap and we all visited some and then the girls got up and we hit the pool. I will NEVER forget the pool experience. Both Dad and Audrey got in and PLAYED with the kids. Dad and Kye had a water gun war and Britt was SO precious with Audrey playing princess. After swimming we ate dinner and played games and visited some more before the kids went to bed and they headed out. I know I already said it but it bears repeating: it was THE MOST AWESOME DAY. I just can’t even describe how happy and full it made my heart. I called them crying the next day just letting them know I much I love them both and how thankful I am for them! Hearing the kids talk about their time with Grandpa and Grammie was just the best feeling! I want my children to have close ties with my family and making those memories was just priceless!!! I’m super hopeful getting to see each other will become something we can make a priority. I’d love even just to plan on some face-to-face time twice a year with them! Of course I wish it could be even more than that but I’d love if it that often could happen πŸ™‚ I have THE most precious picture of them with the kids (Britt was so obsessed with Audrey and she’s hugging all over her…so sweet) but it was post-swimming and I promised not to post it here πŸ˜‰ I do have it framed in my house though!

Dad was HILARIOUS haha

This month we also gathered as a family to honor Silas. I loved that Casey wanted to plant a tree for him out at Mema’s and we all got together to plant it and say a few words. Britt has especially been very connected to Silas and Casey throughout this time. It’s really the first experience with loss she’s ever had and it’s been heavy on her heart. She prays for Casey CONSTANTLY and is so sweet about it all. She made a precious card for Silas and wanted to write “Britt loves Silas” on it πŸ™‚

Kye made a special box for Silas with little notes on it too πŸ™‚

Little Mama brought balloons out to the farm and the kids all let one go

(no need to comment about turtles choking on balloons…we don’t live anywhere near the ocean)

I’m so thankful that it was such a positive and healing experience for Casey. Honoring Silas was important to us all and it was such a wonderful night together.

We also celebrated Big Daddy’s birthday this month! I’m thankful it worked out where the kids and I could go and Zach could meet us there! Big Daddy is 89 now and loves his set routine haha It makes it tough to see him as often as we’d like but it was such a wonderful night honoring such a great man.

Cards for the birthday boy!

Kye’s was so funny b/c he kept mentioning how close Big Daddy is to 100 πŸ˜‰

Kye CRACKED ME UP at the dinner. It was a pretty large crew of us at this small local pizza place. Kye insisted that he wanted a small table to sit BY HIMSELF. Such a Mr Rusty move and it had me laughing. He wasn’t upset or anything, he just wanted to sit quietly and enjoy his meal without all the craziness πŸ˜‰

Britt on the other hand shines in a crowd. She LOVES the attention and knows how to get it πŸ˜‰ She was ALL about some Big Daddy. It was so precious and I know it made his day even more special!

Who the heck cut that cake haha

Priceless memories πŸ™‚

The blog had a little bit of fame this month! I had a friend let me know that Kye’s picture and a link to my blog was featured on the msn.com homepage! How cool is that?

Free stuff is always fun! This month we received a free Zootopia toy and had a themed Zootopia night to celebrate πŸ™‚

Best garage sale find ever! Paid $4 for this popcorn machine and it works great!

This month kicked off the girls going to school together. I have LOVED seeing their bond grow and strengthen through this shared experience. It’s PRECIOUS. Britt is SO proud to have Tess at her school and it makes me super glad we made the decision to go ahead and send her this year πŸ™‚

They love sitting up front together in the drop off line!

I can’t even πŸ˜‰

My girls!!!

Stories from the Month (Now that I’m so into IG Stories I need a place to share ’em!):

I’m so thankful for my precious family and love getting to make so many wonderful memories together each month!

Family Fun: August

Links to Amazon are affiliate links.

I LOVED doing the weekly summer recap posts and decided to keep that trend going but do monthly family fun posts πŸ™‚ Hopefully it’ll help cut down some on the kids’ monthly posts for me πŸ™‚

August was a big month of transitions! Tess turned one,  Kye started at his new school, Britt started at school solo, and Zach turned 31 πŸ™‚

I’ve never done any type of countdown with the kids for our Disney trips. We had a one-day park visit trip planned for Labor Day weekend (posts to come!) and we spent EVERY DAY talking about it. The anticipation is SUCH a big part of the FUN! I put together a chain link countdown for each kid and it was a really fun thing. We def will be doing it for our next trip in Feb!

August is a big birthday month for the Parker’s. Tess (the last day of July but still practically August), Zach, Jordan, Trey and Big Daddy all have birthdays within a two week span. This year Big Daddy turned 88 and we were fortunate enough to be able to go visit with him for a little bit on his special day!

Kye made him a special card, so sweet

And Britt is getting so serious about her picture drawing!

I love the bond these two are forming now that Britt is older πŸ™‚

Big Daddy is SO special to me. He was the first one in the family to embrace me and accept me and love me and I’m forever grateful for that. There is nothing sweeter than seeing our children with their great grandparents. What an amazing blessing!

I’ve been trying to make sure to GET OUT and have GIRL TIME more often! It’s a struggle to make myself do it but I’m always so glad I did! On this particular night out I was SO tired and stopped to get a pick me up before our dinner. Y’all. Mcd icee coffee miiiiight be the death of me. And they are only $1.97 at our Mcd…for any size.

Even just a simple dinner is a great time when you’re surrounded by great company!

This month we got SERIOUS about our family Bible study time. It’s something I want to be a #1 priority in our home. I did a lot of research and found several tools and resources to help us and one of the things that’s been AWESOME has been the What’s in the Bible DVD series. I have a whole post coming up discussing it in more detail but we busted it out for the first time this month and loved it!

Different families value different things and Zach’s family has a BIG value on sports. It’s a bit crazy to me since it’s not something my family valued but I have come to appreciate their love of sports. Jake is the youngest of our generation of Parkers and is the starting quarterback at a local high school. It’s his senior year and we bought season tickets to be able to go watch him in action! The school is SUPER close to our house and the games are after the kids are in bed so it’s worked out well. We have been paying a teenager in our neighborhood to come sit while the kids sleep and we go to the game. I will take a date night any way I can get it πŸ˜‰

With our upcoming Disney trip we booked a character meal and wanted to get Tess used to characters. Casey, Jordan and Carter were coming along with us and we wanted to get Carter used to them too. Where is the best place to practice character meeting? CFA family night – duh! We hit it up and the kids had a BLAST! I love that Tess and Carter are old enough now to legit play and have FUN!

These sneaky bffs may have gotten caught drinking each others milk sippies πŸ˜‰

Free kids meals AND free sundaes? SCORE!

Carter did GREAT with the cow!

Tess? Ehhhhh….she did as I expected her to do. She doesn’t like when her own extended family holds her, let alone a randomly tall cow πŸ˜‰

This month Zach and I got this FIRE for our marriage! I plan to write a post about it but y’all. It’s been awesome πŸ™‚ I have an ammmmazing picture of him wearing my apron but I’m saving him the embarrassment and just posting the yummy meal he made for me instead. My man can COOK. Lemon chicken with capers is my FAV and he nailed it πŸ™‚

Zach’s cousins wife had a baby shower and it was the same time as the Meet the Blazers. Zach took Kye to the football field (post to come) and I took the girls with me to the shower. Britt LOVED it! It was her first shower experience and she had a great time and Tess did awesome and I loved showing off my sweet girls to everyone πŸ™‚

Our church had a lady’s afternoon with a paint party! It was really, really fun and I was pumped to have a fall themed door hanger for my front door πŸ™‚

When I got home from the paint party I walked in the door to this! I don’t think we’ve ever had so many children sitting around our table πŸ™‚ The Megow crew knows how to bring a PARTY!

I cannot say enough how much the playroom has really paid off. Zach worked hard to make it happen and I’m so thankful we had the vision when we built our home. Our kids are old enough now where we can say “go play!” and they can just PLAY and the adults can visit! It’s always the hot spot when company comes over and the kids all love it!

If you don’t read Seth’s Blog you should! And if you do read it then you know he’s rocking the single dad life. He’s doing so awesome at it (total pro-dad) but it kinda stinks b/c it’s hard to actually get to hang out with him! Dude is BUSY. We ended up having a big Megow sleep over! The kids all slept in various places in our house and Seth planned on going home and coming back to pick them up which is just silly. He just camped out in a guest room too so he could hang out and have some adult time! We had a blast and it’s always so great to see him and Zach together. They were hardcore bffs in high school and their silly sides come out whenever they get together! We need to plan another night soon!

Tripoloy had to happen, duh

As did cosmic brownies (your welcome for using it as a censor bar over Seth’s nip show bahaha Seth has this thing where he took off his shirt anytime Zach and I bickered over the game!)

Zach and I got to contribute to Seth’s first blog giveaway by providing him with some props for a photo shoot. Classic Seth! You HAVE to watch the videos on this post. I was DYING. I totally need to add the photo I took of him to my professional photography album (b/c #sidejob).

This was a test shot for the set up of Seth’s pics…but omg it’s like my new fav pic of my man. Whew. Hot.

We also did a fun recreation photo from a pic they took together the summer after they graduated from high school. Questions: how is my husband so TAN and WHY is he wearing what appears to be a woman’s beanie?!?!

Cinnamon rolls for everyone for breakfast πŸ™‚

These kids are all so special to me and our family. We’ve known them all from the moment they were born (99% sure that Stevie was conceived at my dad’s house the weekend Zach and I got married bahaha). It’s so neat to see our children grow up together. I’m thankful for the bonds we share with the Megow crew. It hurts my heart so much that Crissy is missing out on all of these precious moments but I’m so proud of Seth and the godly man he is. He makes sure his kids know nothing but love and live their lives for the Lord and have FUN!

One more shameless plug for his blog…yall it’s seriously AMAZING: Who Put My iPad in the Dishwasher?

That’s a wrap for our family fun in August!
