Spear’s 4 Month Well Visit

Spear’s 4th month well check was on Monday April 16th. We had THE first appointment which was so nice! With the shot appointments I really like Zach to be there. I don’t want my kids to have issues with needles and I think his calm nature about them really makes a difference. It worked out great that we were able to have an early morning appointment time before he had to head to work!

Big boy! Daddy took him to be weighed while I answered questions about our family!

This girl is SO EASY and just hangs out and waits patiently!

Not pumped for shots ๐Ÿ˜‰

While I’m not a fan of these forms we have to fill out at each visit, I do LOVE that it gives me a chance to see what milestones are typical around this age and to see how Spear is doing. Makes me proud to be able to check off all those little boxes! And with him being the fourth kid it’s an easy way to keep it all in mind ๐Ÿ˜‰

Up until this visit we’ve seen the legit pediatrician each time we’ve been with Spear. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE our dr. But I am more of a PA type girl ๐Ÿ˜‰ I just feel like they are a little more in-depth and take more time to really talk to us and explain things and answer questions. I’m just more comfortable and confident in speaking with them too!

Here’s the things we discussed:

  • Teething! Basically just the same stuff I already knew to do: teethers in fridge (not freezer guys!) and Motrin for pain once 6 months old.
  • She mentioned his top lip appears to have an upper lip tie. Britt had tongue tie as an infant and we got it clipped when she was very, very young.  It’s something I’m going to continue to have them look at each visit but that we probably won’t do anything about? He’s eating great and it doesn’t seem to be an issue for him. I’ve also heard that since kids’ bodies heal so well that often times you will get it clipped only to have it reform/attach/whatever it does.
  • The main thing we discussed was his belly button. Since his cord fell off it appears to have a brown spot on it and occasionally I’ve had it be almost mucus-like. She said it was most likely “granuloma” and that sometimes the umbilical cord area doesn’t completely close or can still have some attached. She said to wash it with soapy water and keep it very clean and dry. And to check it with a qtip to see if it’s wet. If it’s wet then we may need to be referred to another dr in town to see about next steps. She said it’s not a concern and something we can def just watch because it may or may not even be the issue, she said it’s such a small spot that she can’t even tell if it’s a piece left or an opening or just healing still!

At four months old he was: 25.25 inches long (50th percentile), 15.8 lbs (50th percentile), and his head was 16.3 (25th percentile).

At Spear’s 2 month well visit he was: 23.5 inches long (50th percentile) and weighed 13.5 lbs (50th percentile). His head circumference was 15.75 inches around (25th percentile)

It’s awesome to see that he’s consistent in his growth patterns!

In comparing to his siblings at their 4 month well checks:

Kye’s26 inches (80th percentile), Weight: 16 lb 4 oz (70th percentile) Head Circumfrance: 16 3/4 inches (didn’t tell me percentage)

Britt’s26.25 inches long (91st percentile), weighs 16 lb 2 oz (80th percentile),and had a head circumference of 16 inches (30th percentile)

Tess’s: 25 inches long (75th percentile), 13.2 lbs (25th percentile) and had a head circumference of 15.6 inches (25th percentile).

It’s interesting to me how all over the place the percentiles are. Did they change how they judge that or something?!?! How was Tess “shorter” than Spear yet higher in percentage? Maybe boy vs girl plays a role?

In comparing kids Spear is longer than Tess but a TON shorter than Britt! He’s also heavier than Tess but lighter than Kye and Britt at this age. And his head is actually the second biggest which doesn’t surprise me. I always think of Tess as TINY all around and Britt as big but small headed and as Kye as the biggest with a huge head haha! I guess my memory serves me pretty accurately ๐Ÿ˜‰

We go back again at 6 months for more shots and another check up. He did well for his shots and didn’t have any sort of side effects. I haven’t had to give him any Tylenol post-dr visits yet! He is just extra sleepy but otherwise good to go. Such an easy baby ๐Ÿ™‚

So thankful for the amazing staff at our pediatrician! We have a few things to keep an eye on (lip tie and belly button) but I’m not overly concerned about either item and feel pretty confident at next visit they’ll be a non-issue!
