Tess is 11 Months Old!

Tess turned 11 months old on June 30th. Using What to Expect the First Year here is where Tess lines up in her development compared to other babies around her age:

At 11 months old Tess can do everything a baby her age should be able to do including:
  • get into sitting position from stomach
  • pick up an object with any part of thumb and finger
  • understand "no" but not always obey it

She can also do everything an 11 month old will probably be able to do including:
  • play patty-cake (clap hands) or wave bye-bye
  • walk holding onto furniture, cruise
  • point or gesture to something to get needs met

Tess can do everything a baby her age may possibly be able to do including:
  • pick up a tiny object neatly with tips of thumb and forefinger
  • stand alone momentarily
  • say one word other than "mama" or "dada"
  • say "mama" or "dada" discriminately (while she doesn't say "mama" yet I do believe she knows what it means!)

This month Tess can several things that 11 month old babies may even be able to do including:
  • indicate wants in ways other than crying
  • "play ball" (roll a ball back to you)
  • drink from a cup independently
  • use immature jargoning (gibberish baby talk)
  • respond to a one-step command without gestures
The things she cannot yet do in this category include:
  • stand alone well
  • say three or more words other than "mama" and "dada"
  • walk well
