Tess 9 Month Well Visit

Tess had her 9 month well visit on May 5th. So she was just 6 days past turning 9 months old. I've become quite the pro at these visits ;) I schedule them for as early as possible and for the days I have Britt at home. I think it's good for her to tag along and be a support system for Tess. It also gives her that "big girl" status and I love seeing her in that role with her baby sister!

Waiting is better when we're together :)

Tess is into everything now!

Teaching her sister God's Word :)

Zach had taken Tess to her 6 month well check up. He showed Britt how to make a balloon out of a glove. So now that's a "must do" at the dr. Thanks Dad ;)

The dr office opens at 8:30. Tess naps at 9. I never, ever skip her morning nap so it makes the visits tricky. In the past it hasn't affected her too much and she'd fall asleep in my arms pretty easily. Now those days are done. She was SO fussy and not happy because she wanted SLEEP. I brought her bunny and even a paci just in hopes it'd help her fall asleep. Clearly it didn't ;)

Time with Tess is just FLYING by in a way I don't remember it going as quickly with the others. I felt like she had JUST had her last visit. I didn't really have a ton of questions or concerns or anything. Our awesome PA looked her over really well, which Tess didn't like. She didn't want to be held down at all. Which is funny b/c I remember my mom telling stories about me as a kid freaking out about being held down too.

It was SUPER embarrassing when they checked her ears. There was so much wax they couldn't see inside of them and we had to spend a good chunk of time cleaning them out! Zach is really anti-cleaning ears so we talked about it and she gave me some drops to use like once a month just to help clear out any wax. I'm more of a clean-the-ears person (I clean mine EVERY day when I get out of the shower) but Zach handles bath and I get his reasons behind not wanting to use qtips (even though the little baby ones so don't go in far right?!?!).

The big thing I talked to her about was Tess being congested. Carter is the same way which is so interesting to me. She gets drainage and a little cough and has a hard time sleeping because of it. She said to run the humidifier, use vicks, and give ½ tsp of Claritin once a day. The Claritin really really helped her! I'd only need to do it all for a few days and she'd be fine again for awhile then need it again for a couple days. I think it might be seasonal allergies?

It's interesting because every year around that same time I get weird eye gunk stuff and Kye is the same way. We get like allergies in our eyes. I talked to her about that and got her to go ahead and prescribe me some drops just to keep on hand so whenever it happens we don't have to run to the walk in to get a prescription.

My biggest concern was Tess's eyes. Looking back in the blog I actually commented that Britt's eyes were not the same size. Mine aren't either...and I know most people's aren't exactly the same. But to me Tess's are more noticeable and it looks like her eye lid on one eye is more droopy. She said for us just to watch it and to expect it to get worse when she's not feeling well (like the allergies) or when she's tired. But that her son had the same thing and it went away at about a year old. I had talked to her about it all when I came for Kye's 6 year appointment but I wanted her to look at it herself in person with Tess there. She said she thought it looked better than it had in the pictures I showed her and I agree. I still notice it, but not as much as I used to. We're going to keep watching it for now and see what they say at her 1 year check!

They did her stats and at 9 months old Tess is 27 1/4 inches long (40th percentile), 16 lbs and 2 oz (10th percentile), and her head is 17.25 inches (45th percentile). Right away she agreed that they most likely measured her wrong at her 6 month check up. When I had compared her stats at the 6 month I knew there was no way she was that long and in that high of a percentile! At 6 months she was: 26 3/4 inches long which is the 85th percentile. She was also 14 lbs 8 oz which is the 25th percentile. Her head was 16.5 inches which is the 20th percentile.

It's always good to see growth and they have not said a word to me about concerns regarding her percentiles. I was expecting something to be said about her drop in weight percentages, but she said she knows I'm a good mom and feeding her well and that she's probably just more active and not to be concerned about it. Which I'm thankful for, because I'm not concerned :) At Britt's 6 month check she also dropped in her percentages and they did tell me they were concerned...I didn't do anything about it and by the next visit her percentiles were back up. I plan to just stay the course and trust that she's getting what she needs through my breast milk and through the solids I offer. Girl LOVES to nurse and LOVES to grub so I'm not concerned!

At 9 months old Britt's stats were: 28.5 inches long (75th percentile), 17.14 lbs (25th percentile) and her head is 16.5 inches around (10th percentile).

And Kye's were: 29 3/4 inches long (90th percentile), 21.9 lb (75th percentile), and 18 1/8 inches head circumference (75th percentile)

Tess is my shortest, smallest baby with the average size head ;) Kye's head was SO BIG and Britt's was SO SMALL. I can't believe she's almost a full 2 inches shorter than Britt was at this age. And that she's 3 lbs lighter! Britt looks so thin in her pics and Tess looks chunkier than Britt did to me? But I guess it's because Britt was so much longer so the weight was more spread out. Kinda like how stinkin' tall girls can weigh more than me but look WAY thinner whereas my 5'1" frame shows every pound. Sorry Tess, you get it from your mama ;)

I'm thankful there were no shots this visit. Tess came home and was exhausted. She nursed for SO long because she was so sleepy.  I'm so thankful for God's blessings in such a healthy baby :) And I'm in total denial that at her next visit she'll be ONE! Ahhhhhh
