Pre-Easter Fun

Usually every year we have quite a few pre-Easter activities. This year things were a little different! Our neighborhood party and egg hunt got rained out which meant it was the first year ever that we didn’t meet the Easter bunny! I honestly wasn’t too concerned about that though…but I DO think Britt may have done better this year with meeting him since she did so great at Disney with the characters? I’m sure we will meet him next year being Leo’s first Easter!

Every year a sweet family from our church hosts a big event at their home for Easter. We have never been able to attend because it’s right after church and would cut into nap time. This year Kye came home talking about it from Bible Class and Zach and I discussed it. This is the EASIEST life is going to be for awhile. Why not go this year since we most likely won’t be able to go next year due to Leo’s schedule? Yes, it meant Kye and Britt would go down for nap late, or even have to skip it completely, but they are old enough to allow that to happen on occasion!

For the church hunt we needed to have 24 dyed eggs. I started our egg dying adventure off with 39 eggs. When I opened them 10 were broken in the carton (obviously the bag boy’s fault, right?!?!). So I only boiled 29. Then 7 of those were broken in the pot when they were done boiling. So we had exactly 24 left to color!

I decided to try out that melted crayon idea that was floating around Pinterest at Easter time. It sounded simple enough: hard boil the eggs then color them while they are still warm. Simple right? Surely I could handle that solo with a toddler and preschooler! No big deal! Ha. Ha. Ha.

It’s kinda hard to color an egg while in the carton but the eggs had to be warm in order for it to work and they were SO warm that it was impossible to hold them. So we tried using wash cloths to grip the eggs and color them at the same time.

Y’all. It was a nightmare. The kids would get to coloring and then the egg would slip out of their grasp and break. We broke NINE of the 24 eggs. Britt gave up and went and played something else and poor Kye kept trying over and over again and kept dropping them. He ended up crying he was so upset. I, of course, was dying laughing by this point. I mean how awful are we that we start with 39 eggs and end up only having 13?!?! Sometimes you just have to laugh!

Renewed spirit! I explained to him that this was just a terrible idea and it totally wasn’t his fault for dropping so many!

Thankfully when I posted about our egg disaster on FB Kori volunteered some extra eggs they had! So sweet of her and gave us plenty of eggs to bring to the hunt the next day!!!

We left church as soon as it was over and were among the first people at the hunt. Our church doesn’t get out until 11:30 and the location of the hunt was pretty far away from there, as well as from our house. It was a BEAUTIFUL farm and such a fun afternoon! I’m very glad we went and had time to relax and fellowship with our church family. I feel like we aren’t able to do things like that often enough and it was such a joy to see our children enjoying their friends from church! I pray they all are always such a good group of kids!

While Kye was enjoying his friends and the “big kid” swing, Britt had all the older little girls wrapped around her finger. She loved the bench swing and all these girls kept taking turns pushing her in it. Such a little princess 😉

I took Britt and her friend, Bella Kate, and we walked around the farm together. It was so cute seeing Britt with a friend her age! I feel like she doesn’t get to play with friends very often!

The most interesting part about the whole hunt was the realization that our son has quite a bit of game with the ladies…haha. That morning in church Kye had written a note asking Kailyn to marry him (I know…so funny!) and I guess that note was THE talk of the young kids. They all kept pairing up for the swing and waiting in line together to swing together and some of the older kids (by older I mean like 8-10 years old) kept calling it the “date swing.” SO funny. I guess several of the little girls were wanting to swing with Kye and I had one little girl actually come up to me and ask me about the note Kye wrote Kailyn! She said that Kye had told her sister that he liked her and that her sister found out that he also likes Kailyn. I mean I didn’t even know who this girl was and she told me that her sister is 11 years old. Maybe she needs to find a kid her own age?!?! Haha. I def don’t want to get involved in my son’s “love life” even if he’s only 5 so I just tried to stay out of it!

We all ate lunch and then it was time for the hunt (btw I had a hot dog and it was AMAZING. And I don’t even usually like hot dogs!). All the kids went inside the house while some of the adults hid the eggs. Of course I opted to go inside with the kids 😉 For having THAT many children together they all did amazing! We sang songs and kept them busy and the hiding didn’t take long!

We later heard that more stuff was going down during the egg hunt wait! I guess a little girl (who I think is like 7?) told Kye she likes him and asked if he likes her. He has NO CLUE about that kind of thing or what she meant and he said that he told her yes, he likes her. Of course he meant he likes her as a person/friend b/c that’s all he knows “likes” means. I’m thinking she meant a different kind of like…poor kid is leading girls on already and not even knowing it!

Kye was part of the older kid group that was allowed to start after the little kids. With that big of a group, the eggs got found FAST and Kye was disappointed that he didn’t have many eggs. Nothing to fret over b/c one after one girls kept coming up to him and giving them some of their eggs!!! It was HILARIOUS. We rarely see Kye interacting with kids because we don’t teach at church and we obviously don’t go to school with him. Zach and I had NO IDEA that he had such pull with the girls!!! I think we may have a heartbreaker on our hands 😉

We really did have SUCH an amazing time!!! Britt ended up being quite a hot mess without her nap but we still didn’t regret going. It was so wonderful to visit with our friends from church and especially to get to see our children enjoying their sweet friends. One of the main reasons we attend church where we do is because we wanted our children to grow up among many Christian families and their children. Zach grew up in a small church and did have a lot of friends from there. However, there aren’t really any families with young kids at his church now and I LOVE that our church has so, so many families! I do not care at all about my kids making friends at school. The friendships that are the most important to me are the ones from church! These are the kids we pray our children grow up being around!

The next weekend was actual Easter so we had to do more eggs as a family. This time? We went for the traditional egg dying technique. The kids colored the eggs with crayons prior to dying them which I much, much prefer!!!

None got broken…I think Daddy doing the boiling helped 😉

Kye also had an egg hunt at school (thankfully NO eggs had to be colored for this event! Just the plastic ones with candy…which I can def handle haha). Britt tagged along with me and I made sure to be VERY on time (last year I was late…remember?). It was SO precious to see how excited Kye was to have Britt there with him! He had her come sit with his class and was so protective of her 🙂 Precious!

Each child in the class could only hunt a certain number of eggs, so obviously that meant Britt didn’t participate. And she did SUPER great about it! Until the kids opened the eggs and had treats inside, and then she melted down and it was pretty embarrassing. I’m glad she’ll have her own class hunt next year 😉
