Britt Monthly Summary: October

This is all about Britt from October!

Community Helper Day: I was fortunate enough to spend a special day at school with each child this month. Kye had a field trip at the post office and Britt had community helper day! Actually Kye had community helper day as well but Tess wouldn't drink a bottle for G-Mama so Britt and I had to leave to rush home so I could nurse her. But at least I got to spend some special time with Britt! It was so fun seeing her with her friends and in her classroom setting. I try to really watch my children when I can and see how they act in their school environment. Britt cracked me up because they had circle time and the teacher asked the class what day of the week it was. Britt confidently called out about 3 different days of the week, none of which were correct. It didn't phase her one bit that she was wrong, she brushed it off and just guessed another day. Each time she seemed SO sure of herself and I was in awe of that confidence! I was always the type of student who held back unless I knew the correct answer. I hope she always stays confident in herself and her abilities, even if it's not what the teacher is wanting from her ;)

We got to visit a police officer, ambulance driver and fire man! Britt stuck to my side the entire time. She didn't have much interest in any of it...she was more excited to have Mommy at school ;)
The dog could go find a pair of keys that the officer threw into the grass...pretty impressive!
We got to check out where all the "bad guys" sit!
Every year they have this little talking ambulance...it scared several of the kids
The fire truck is always my personal favorite :)
The fireman that was there this year was like a LEGIT fireman. Like he belongs on a tv show. He looked the part of what you mentally think a fireman would be like and he totally acted like it too. He was awesome!

Highlight of the morning for the kids was getting to spray the water hose!

I loved spending quality time with my big girl!
Date with Daddy: When Kye and I had our date together, Zach and Britt got to also have a date. I LOVE how Zach always wants to dress her himself for their dates and he likes to have her get dressed up. It's adorable. They had a great time and got dinner as well as dessert!

Activities: Kye has started creating little centers around the house of activities for Britt and I to do. She takes direction from him SO well. He is a little on the bossy side (hello oldest child!) but she plays along well and tends to do whatever he tells her to do. It makes me thankful that he's such a positive role model for her! She patiently worked on each activity and I had to referee some to make sure Kye wasn't too tough on her! He assumes she has the same skills and abilities and knowledge that he does and he gets frustrated with her when that's not the case. I have to remind him a lot that she's only 2!

Bad Guy: I love when my kids play solo and I'm able to kinda spy on them and listen to what they are doing. I love hearing their little story lines and action sounds. It's just an adorable thing to me! When I took the kids garage sale shopping Britt picked out this massive, obviously boyish, action figure as her prize. She is hilarious playing with it. I caught her lining up all her princesses and then having the bad guy climb up her wall and attack all of the princesses. If you didn't look at her you'd totally think it was a little boy destroying his sisters toys!

More About Britt This Month:

  • Britt is ALWAYS cold. When she was born the umbilical cord was wrapped twice around her neck. She had the lowest apgar score of all three of my kids and it was due to her coloring. Her hands were a purplish color. It's SUPER interesting to me that she continues to have a tough time staying warm. She can swim in a pool and her lips will turn purple and she will be shivering when the rest of us are fine. She loves layers and will get home from school and put on MORE clothes while Kye walks in the door and always strips down to his underwear ;)
  • FINALLY Britt can get up on the toilet by herself and also WIPE herself! I know she's not delayed in this area, but when you're a breastfeeding mama the worst thing to hear is your toddler saying they have to go potty :) So now I don't have that worry anymore!
  • When I went on Kye's field trip to the post office one of the girl's in his class had her mom come and her mom happens to also be one of Britt's teachers ;) We talked a bit about Britt and it was so nice to hear such sweet things. Britt is SO wild at home that I've always been concerned it'd carry over to the classroom. But it doesn't! She said Britt has never had a timeout. She said she is very dramatic (not a surprise) and that she often complains about being sleepy. I told her the reason she says she's sleepy is b/c she wants to suck her fingers and she knows she's only allowed to in the bed :)
  • Kye has to memorize a Bible verse each week for school and Britt, of course, wants to practice too. I'm not sure why but she chose one verse from a random week of his and that's "her" Bible verse. She never tries to learn his new ones, always the same one! I LOVE her adorable little voice saying it! Here's a video!
  • Also on the field trip people said to me multiple times how cute Britt is and talked about how all of her outfits are always adorable. It made me feel really good b/c, legit, 90% of Britt's clothes are used haha. I'm glad I mix and match things well enough to where people can't tell!
  • Our biggest struggle with Britt right now is meal times. She will sit down at the table and immediately complain and say she's not hungry or she doesn't like the food we've made, etc. She takes AGES to eat a meal. Makes a huge mess doing it. Gets distracted super easily from eating. We usually have to all get finished and leave the table in order to finally get her to eat. If she has any type of audience she's more in "put on a show" mode than "eat my dinner" mode. We set a timer and tell her she has to finish X amount of food before the timer goes off. It helps some. Bribery doesn't even help! If we tell her she can have a dessert she simply says she'd rather not eat than have to eat to get the sweet. We even tried not making her eat anything. She complained that she didn't like it and wasn't hungry so we took her dinner plate away and she sat happily while the rest us ate and never complained about being hungry later! t finally made the discovery that giving her two piles of each type of food on her plate works for her. I made two piles of peas, two piles of fruit, two piles of meat etc and then tell her to pick a pile of each to eat. We still often have to set the timer to get her to speed up (and stop entertaining everyone...) but the piles make meal time WAY happier! I just have to double the amounts I give her so I know the piles she eats still equal enough food :)

Sweet Sister!

My girl :)
