At the beginning of summer I made a list of things I wanted to make sure to accomplish with the kids. A summer bucket list kind of thing! Usually during the summer we have a few “traditions” of activities we always do and I wanted to make sure we accomplished them all before the baby arrived!
Usually I do the fun things with the kids while Zach is working, but right now I’m ALL about some family time together. I want the four of us to soak up this quality time while we can so when we had a free weekend I suggested to Zach that we try to knock off some of my summer bucket list items together!
It resulted in a very fun, memorable weekend for us all!
One thing we did last year and really enjoyed was going to the airport to watch the plane land and take off. I called the air port and we decided to make it a picnic dinner as it would be cooler and Zach could meet us there after his Friday golf 😉 Zach and I planned to eat Subway for dinner…it’s the only restaurant inside our airport. But when we got there? They were closed. I mean it makes ZERO sense from a business standpoint. There are only like 4 flights a day at our airport. You’d think they would stay open for them all?!?! At least we had packed dinner for the kids and Zach and I just waited and ate later on that night!
Casey had gotten me a super cute hat and I thought I’d wear it to help minimize the sweaty hair look…of course when I decided to wear a hat BOTH of the kids wanted to wear one too. So it was a hat themed evening 🙂
As luck would have it…the plane was MEGA late in landing. We thought we’d get to watch it land and then take off again but it hadn’t even landed by the time it was supposed to have taken off. We kept looking and listening for signs of the plane coming! We did get to see several small planes which was still fun 🙂
Of course we brought along some airplane toys to keep us busy!
Zach was constantly saying “I think I hear it!” haha
Chewing grass is always a fun thing to do too 😉
While we waited storm clouds came in. We even got hit with some rain and it eventually started to thunder. Um. That explained why the plane was so late! We raced to the car and decided to stick around and wait it out. When I’m on a mission I’m not about to give up!!! We were seeing that plane land dangit!
It FINALLY came in and landed and we jumped out of the car to watch it and I’m glad we stayed. Kye was so much more interested in the knowledge about the plane than he was last year and Britt was really excited too! We did not, however, stick around to wait for it to take off again!
The next morning we went ahead and knocked another thing off my list: donuts. Y’all know we don’t eat out much and we also aren’t big on junk food so donuts are a rarity in our home. Every summer I like to take the kids to eat donuts close to when school starts. It’s like one last summer celebration! Obviously we will most likely have a newborn when school starts so it made sense for us to go ahead and go as a family together for breakfast!
We each picked three donuts and felt sick pretty quickly into eating them. I don’t think any of us actually ate three!
Once we finished up with the donuts we headed down to Lake Park. For each of our pregnancies we have never found out the sex of the baby. One of our traditions is to go to Carter’s and pick out one little girl outfit and one little boy outfit. We bring them both to the hospital and then return whichever one we aren’t going to be using. It’s a fun tradition and a chance to actually get to buy clothes for our baby! We had a good time including Kye in picking out Britt’s first outfits so we wanted to include both kids again this time around.

We got there about 20 min before they opened so we let the kids run and play outside the store and they had fun on the “rides” 🙂
I LOVE Carter’s for several reasons. They are def my favorite place for baby clothes (and Gap and Old Navy). I just love all their bright colors and cute combinations. I also love their store because they are used to seeing tons of kids in there and it’s small enough where we can shop and let the kids just play with the lego table and not have to keep a mega close eye on them. The kids LOVE their lego table and Kye actually calls it the “lego store” haha.
We decided to divide and conquer and that Zach and Kye would select a boy outfit and Britt and I would select a girl one. Well the boys were done in like 3 min. Britt left me pretty fast and I just could NOT decide. My gut is so strong feeling it’s a boy that I really, really struggled to find anything for a girl!!! Finally I asked Zach to help me haha. So technically he kinda picked both outfits for this baby 😉 He was so adorable though and had shoes and mittens to match his boy outfit! The shoes were massive so we put them back and I told him we already have plenty of mittens 😉 He also found several clothing items for the kids on the clearance rack and even an additional boy outfit on clearance so we got it just in case 🙂
After we finished up there we ran into Gap because I had an awesome coupon and the kids could def use some back to school clothes. Shopping with Zach is hilarious. When I shop I am a stickler about finding the cheapest of cheap. I bust out a calculator and really work the system to my advantage the best I can. With Zach there that all went out the window!
We ended up with some really cute things for the kids but just not stuff I would have normally purchased on my own. I mean we got Kye three tank tops. And they were $7 each. Haha. But it is just so cute to me when Zach is excited about something for the kids so I cave and get whatever he likes!
When we got home we finished out our fun morning with a picnic lunch and some swimming! I didn’t last long because it was HOT and I knew we had a birthday party that afternoon and I’d be sweating enough then haha!
After naps I took both kids solo to Cooper’s 2nd birthday party. It was a pool party and I was so thankful that my kids can swim so I didn’t have to get in! Kye swam his little heart out with his friends and Britt stuck to the shallow play area so I could just sit with my feet in at the side of the pool and keep a close eye on them both. It worked out really well! It was also hilarious because when we first got there everyone was all like “Emily you look SO CUTE!” and by the end of the party everyone was like “Omg Emily you look so hot. Are you okay? Do you need water? Here sit down!” hahahahaha. I’m thankful no one got pics of me at the end of the event 😉

It was a super cute construction themed party! Both kids had a BLAST but I especially enjoyed watching Kye just play with his friends. It’s so neat to see him grow up and be more independent. He sat at a table with his buddies and I sat away from him with Britt so he could have that fun time without his sister bothering him 🙂 You can see all the cute party details on Robyn’s blog here!
When we got home Zach was hard at work finishing up some of the “before baby comes” items on his to do list. The kids wanted to join him so they did “work” in the storage shed together! Zach has the cutest little set up for Kye with a special stool they built together, all of Kye’s tools, and all of the Lowe’s Workshop stuff he’s made through the years!
One area that neither Zach nor I are really hardcore about is the yard. We just do NOT have green thumbs and aren’t into flowers and such. Zach has worked REALLY hard recently to get our yard looking good and has found ways to improve the look while also making it easier to maintain. He put a boarder up around our flower beds and we invested in rubber mulch that is supposed to last much longer than pinestraw and make it harder for weeds to grow up! Our house def looks the best it’s ever looked and it’s nice not to be embarrassed!!!
Our fun family weekend ended with worship services at church! No better way to end a weekend than by serving our Lord 🙂 You can really see how great the flower beds look in these pics too…and of course our kids aren’t too shabby either 😉 Love my precious babies and it’s going to be so fun to coordinate three kids outfits each Sunday!!!
