The Middle of Spring Break

Sunday, June 8, 2014

My goal for Spring Break this year was to make it fun but also not to overload myself with activities! I knew we were going to start off the week with the family trip! Vacations are always the best way to spend a break, right?

Once we got home the kids and I had a really good week! I started to try to get things accomplished on my "to do" list but also make sure the kids had a good time! I had seen on Pinterest where someone used cheap Target placemats to line their fridge and I thought it'd be an easy project for me to work on!

Our fridge before the make over (yes, we do a lot of leftovers haha)
I bought a bunch of placemats and then measured out the space and cut them to fit. The square design made it super simple and I didn't even have to draw a line or anything! It turned into a bit of a bigger project than I had intended because once you start cleaning out your fridge you kinda can't stop ;) Once I had it cleaned out I just placed the placemat down and that's it! Simple and cute and easier to keep clean!
Finished product!
I even had enough extra to do the shelves in the door of the fridge too!

Zach had to do a good bit of traveling that week and it was the first of the month so we had NO FOOD. I usually do a BIG grocery shopping trip but we really needed stuff and I couldn't wait until Zach got home so I decided to be brave and do something I've never done: I took the kids with me. I had a good game plan. We kicked off the morning with breakfast at Chick Fil A and I let them play a bunch on the playground to get all their energy out and have them nice and full and happy for our adventure :)

I LOVE when they play so sweetly together!

Then we left CFA and headed to Publix! I knew there was no way in the world I'd be able to get my full list completed. I now take more than one full shopping cart to get them all when I I tried to minimize the list to the things I wanted to get from Publix (Zach would finish the list at Walmart later in the month) as well as things I knew we needed! Thank the LORD for the shopping carts with steering wheels :)
I was SO PROUD of the kids! They did AMAZING!!! I didn't have a SINGLE issue the entire time! I kept them very focused and sang a lot of songs and interacted a lot and we did it! I also worked the store backwards so we'd end at the cookies :) Bribery is a mom's best friend!
I tried to make it a fun week by doing little things we don't typically do. Eating out for breakfast at CFA was a BIG DEAL and so was me making some pizza pockets for dinner! The kids love them and they are a good thing to do when Zach's traveling because they aren't really a family meal ;)

Something else we don't do all that often is play outside. Since Kye gets home from school at lunch time we are always in a rush and then after naps we typically only have about an hour before Zach gets home and I start dinner so usually their outside time is with Daddy. We had a fun early morning doing chalk and playing together before it got too hot! I'm not an anti-outside person...I just HATE sweating. And hello. Pregnant in South Georgia means a LOT of sweat!!! Luckily this morning was nice and cool and I was able to enjoy it!

Britt just likes to lay on the ground and have people trace her haha

Sweet message from Kye! He loves his mama (and also...beef?)
I knew coming home from the trip that it would take me some time to get unpacked and settled back in so I think I did a good job of still doing fun, simple things with the kids to make it a memorable Spring Break! We ended the week on a mega fun note...Wild Adventures!

  1. How did you stick the place mats to the shelves? I would love to do that, but we have a top freezer and so our fridge shelves are very wide. P.S. I love Britt's Minnie shirt.

  2. My kids love drawing each other's chalk outlines, too! It looks like y'all had a great spring break!
