Brittlynn is 16 Months Old!

Brittlynn turned 16 months old on April 6th.

I truly look at her now and see a TODDLER instead of a baby! I think her being potty trained really makes her SO much more “grown up!” It really doesn’t make me sad though.

I truly ADORE this stage and have been looking forward to this phase in our lives for awhile now ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m using What to Expect the Toddler Years to compare Britt to what is the “norm” for her age. At 16 months old, Britt is doing everything she should be able to do including:

  • imitate activities
  • scribble (we don’t do it often, I plan to have more coloring time once she drops the morning nap)

She can also do everything a 16-month-old will probably be able to do including:

  • say 3 words
  • use an object in imitation

She can do everything a 16-month-old may possibly be able to do including:

  • say 6 words
  • run

Britt can also do everything a toddler her age may even be able to do including:

  • kick a ball forward
  • brush teeth, with help (we let her brush them after we finish)

A lot of the chapter this month dealt with pets. And I do think it’s a very age-appropriate topic. Britt has become MUCH more fascinated by animals.

I am not too worried about our dogs with her because they learned with Kye that kids aren’t too fun to hang out so they pretty much stay away ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’ve also taught both of my kids to be “sweet and gentle” with the pets and never leave them unattended with them. Sure, our dogs are small and are nice family pets…but I know anything can happen and I would never want to risk it!!!

We don’t go out much so I don’t worry too much about Britt with other people’s pets.

I feel like in this day and age most people wouldn’t let their pets just run up to our kids anyway?

None of Zach’s family has any pets so that’s also not an issue.

And our friends who have pets also have multiple kids so their pets are like ours and run for their hiding spots when the kids come around ๐Ÿ™‚

One of my new favorites!!!!

It always makes me proud of my kids to read through these chapters each month. I really do have such amazing children who are so well behaved!

We don’t have social issues like this chapter discusses (not going to others, being fearful, being overly attached to someone), we don’t deal with poor eating habits, we don’t deal with Britt putting random objects in her mouth, we don’t deal with bath rejection or her being destructive of things!

She’s really so well behaved and is learning to obey us when we tell her to do or not to do something. I know we are just really entering the hardcore toddler stage and that we will hit some bumps along the way, but so far so good ๐Ÿ™‚

I did laugh out loud as part of this chapter discussed potty training and how training now would be “too young” to train.

I do not agree with that AT ALL. I personally believe that the diaper companies are the reason so many kids aren’t trained until much older.

It’s all a marketing scheme to make us spend more money! Hello, they invented pull-ups, not so our kids would become trained but so we would rely on the pull-up.

16 months what to expect

They keep making larger and larger sizes of diapers so we’ll just keep on buying them!!!

I’m def not judging anyone who does wait longer to train their children and I’m 100% a believer that there are signs a child MUST show in order to be ready, but I don’t believe that Britt was “too young to train” or that there is even a thing as “too young” If your kid is ready, they are ready! You can read about our potty training experience here ๐Ÿ™‚

You can go back and see Britt’s 15 Month Post HERE and Kye’s 16 Month Post HERE! I love love love to look back at his old posts.

It is such an awesome thing to have all of his life like this and I really encourage any mamas who don’t have a blog to START ONE! You don’t have to post every day like I do.

You don’t have to get a bunch of readers or join in on link-ups. You can just simply post memories to have of your children.

These days are so precious and I’m thankful to have my blog to always have these memories!!!
