Kye Artwork and Progress Report: Fall 2012

I know, I’m slacking on this! When Kye gets home from school we are ALWAYS in a crazy rush to eat lunch and get dthis. Especially now that I’m blog bookin’ it up. I know he’ll enjoy having all of his art forever :)own for naps. Often I just stick his school work in a pile and it gets forgotten. Hence why we do a big stack at one time and he’s wearing the same thing in most of these pictures ๐Ÿ˜‰ I AM so glad I started doing

I also want to include the details from his Fall Progress Report. Here’s how that broke down:

There were two choices for each item on the report either Kye was “in progress” or he was “mastered.” I remember from his progress report last year that they use the SAME report for both fall and spring so I should expect him to be mostly “in progress” on the fall stuff and “mastered” in the spring ๐Ÿ™‚

He was “in progress” for: knowing that there are 7 days in a week, knowing there are 12 months in a year, knowing there are 4 seasons in a year, and for describing the weather (I don’t know what description they are looking for but EVERY day he talks to me about the weather?).

He knew ALL the names of the days of the week, ALL the names of the months of the year, and ALL the names of the seasons.

He had mastered all of his color recognition (and to think, I had worried over his colors!). The colors they listed included: red, orange, yellow, blue, green, purple, black and brown.

He mastered the recognition of numbers 1, 3, 4, and 5 and was in progress of recognizing 2 and 6.

He could count as high as 14.

With his shapes he had mastered circle, triangle, star and heart. He was in progress with square and rectangle.

With his letters he mastered the capital, lower case, and letter sound for the letters A, B, C, E, F, G, H, I, and J. He was in progress for the capital, lower case and letter sound for D.

In the social skills section there were three options either mastered, in progress, or needs improvement. Kye had mastered all of the social skills including: listens in circle time, follows directions, takes turns, plays with other children, shows pride in work, cleans up after self, shares with others, and washes hands with soap and water.

His teacher left the following comment: “Kye is doing so well in K-3! He is a very sweet boy and plays well with his friends. I am glad he is in my class! :)”

When I read through his report I was, of course, very proud of Kye! He’s doing so great and what wasn’t there to be proud of??? I’m sure ya’ll will be shocked when I say this…but I requested a meeting with the teacher. I know. I’m “that mom” haha! But last year with school Kye was at an age where he told me EVERY detail of his day. He’s growing up and is less interested in sharing his day with me. Our car ride home is pretty much I ask him how school went, he says “good” and then he asks what we’re having for lunch. He doesn’t want to share a lot about what he does at school and I felt like his report was a little vague.

So Zach and I (along with the kids) met with both of his teachers just to touch base and get to know each other better (another advantage of last year is I was friends with his teacher outside of the classroom…this year his teachers are his teachers and I don’t know them outside from that). It went really well and they confirmed that he’s doing wonderful in school. I even told them that I didn’t want them to think the ONLY reason I wanted a meeting was to hear compliments about my kid…I truly just wanted to establish an open line of communication and provide a setting where they could fill me in on things I may need to be aware of. I’m so glad I did it because since then I feel like I know his teachers better and we talk a little longer in the halls when I pick him up. It’s tough with a little one to be as involved in his classroom as I’d like to be so I think the meeting helped. The ONLY area they said Kye could really use some help with is…wait for it…WASHING HIS HANDS. Omg. Embarrassment! See why it’s one of my goals for 2013? ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway I’m very proud of Kye! I do think his school work is rather boring…but he’s LEARNING and I guess school isn’t supposed to be all about cute crafts on Pinterest, huh? ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m excited to see the things he’ll be learning during the Spring! Next year he starts 5 day (still half a day, thank the LORD). I can’t imagine him being gone every morning of the week!!!
