Britt ~ Three Months Old!

Miss Brittlynn turned three months old on March 6th! I love using her monthly stickers, I ordered them from this site. I actually save every sticker each month…I was saving them for Robyn but now that we know she’s having a boy I’m saving them for whoever is the next one to have a girl who might wanna use them (I was going to give them to Crissy but she got some at her shower!). Any takers?

I took her pics this month with her mermaid doll. It usually sits on her pink chair…isn’t it cute? It’s a blabla doll 🙂

According to What to Expect the First Year Brittlynn can do everything a three month old baby should be able to do including:

  • lift head up 45 degrees when on stomach

Britt can also do everything a three month old will probably be able to do including:

  • laugh out loud (favorite sound EVER!)
  • on stomach, lift head 90 degrees
  • squeal in delight (okay…I lied THIS is my favorite sound)
  • bring both hands together
  • smile spontaneously
  • follow an object held about 6 inches above baby’s face and moved 180 degrees, from one side to the other; with baby watching all the way

She can do everything a three month old may possibly be able to do including:

  • hold head steady when upright
  • on stomach, raise chest, supported by arms
  • roll over one way
  • grasp a rattle held to backs or tips of fingers
  • pay attention to an item as small as a raisin

Britt can also do almost everything a three month old may be able to do including:

  • bear some weight on legs when held upright
  • reach for an object
  • keep head level with body when pulled to sitting
  • turn in the direction of a voice, especially mommy’s
  • say “ah-goo” or similar vowel-consonant combinations

The only thing from the may even be able to category that I haven’t noticed Brittlynn doing yet is making a razz, a wet razzing sound. She’s super vocal and makes all kinds of sounds but she doesn’t ever do the raspberry thing I remember Kye doing so often!

The beginning of this chapter discusses two things I’m passionate about: breastfeeding and scheduling. If you’re a pregnant woman or a woman with a new baby and you plan to go back to work – please read this section! It talks all about how to make breastfeeding work while away from your baby. It CAN BE DONE and you CAN be successful with it!!!

Along with breastfeeding, this chapter talks about how the longer you breastfeed the better it is for your baby. We all know that the first few weeks are SO critical to breastfeed but research is now showing the breastfeeding benefits increase substantially when a baby is nursed longer than three months. Many of those benefits may include:

  • The longer the baby is breastfed, the less likely he or she is to be obese later in life.
  • Babies who are fed only breast milk for the first six months of life have a lower risk of developing gastrointestinal infections than infants who are supplemented with formula.
  • Babies who are breastfeed exclusively for longer than four months suffer from half as many ear infections as their formula fed peers
  • Babies who are nursed for six months are much less likely to have problems with allergies of all kinds
  • Many studies have pointed to a link between continued breastfeeding and higher IQs
  • The longer babies are breastfed, the lower their risk of succumbing to SIDS.

I don’t fully agree with the section on scheduling. It seems to lean
more towards the feeding on demand/attachment style parenting. This
doesn’t surprise me as it’s a very popular parenting method in society
today. I just don’t, personally, choose that style for my own child
raising. There are a lot of Babywise haters out there and to those of
you who may have heard things about it I urge you to read it. It’s VERY
short. A quick read. In no way does it say to let your child go hungry
or to even cry when there is something wrong. Yes, I use a book to help
me in my parenting. But really if you read it SO much of it is simple
common sense. Just like with cooking…a lot of meals are simple
ingredients you could easily put together yourself but why go through
that hassle and stress when you can just read the recipe and, most
likely, have an even better meal than you could have prepared on your
own? That’s how I feel about the -wise series. Sure, I could do just fine
on my own as a mother without it, but I can thrive by using the
resources available to me!

This chapter discussed a third thing I’m passionate about as a parent:
SIDS prevention. While I agree with all the typical things they
mentioned in reducing the risks of SIDS, I wish they included the
research on crib mattresses. If you haven’t done so already I urge you
(lots of urging in this post huh?) to read both this post on SIDS prevention and especially this post on the baby mattresses!

The rest of the chapter goes over different options of childcare for mothers who return to work. Obviously this doesn’t apply to me but it does discuss baby sitters. We are SO blessed to have family babysit for us majority of time. I think in Kye’s three years of life he’s only stayed with or had someone stay with him that was non-family 3 or 4 times. It is SO important that whoever keeps your child knows your schedule and routine so the baby will be comfortable (and well behaved for them as well as happy for YOU when you get home!). I also highly recommend investing in CPR cards, I discussed them in this post. You can leave one with the sitter so they know how to respond if it’s needed. I also like to be sure to write down our home address just in case 9-1-1 needs to be called they will know where to tell them to come!

Lots of pics of my cutey this month…do you like the pants?!?! They were borderline too small so I wanted to get one more wear out of them before packing them away 😉

Big Brother wanted to get in on this photo shoot!

love.

She just keeps on gettin’ bigger (and cuter in my opinion!) You can look back at Kye’s three month post here! I simply adore the pictures of him…it seriously feels like just yesterday that I was taking them.
