Big Boy Food

After Kye did so awesome eating the apple slices at Robyn's house I decided to start cutting up his food into bigger pieces. When Zach and I first did the baby lead weaning stuff Kye choked once on a piece of cantaloupe. Zach flipped out and literally attempted to jerk Kye out of his high chair while strapped in. Lesson learned? We cut up all his food super tiny AND no longer strap him in the high chair :) Since then Zach has always been nervous about Kye choking again but it really is time for him to start handling bigger pieces. And I think it ups the enjoyment of the food for him too! Here's some of his first non-tiny-cut-up food experiences:

peach slices
loves eating like a "big boy"
smelling the new lunch box muffin recipe I made (recipe to come on sister blog soon!)
Where's Kye?
not too sure about those muffins...
we couldn't resist letting him try out a donut, we're such bad parents ;)
"if I don't look at her she won't realize I'm eating this"
"I have a donut and youuu donnnn't"

Art Day at Lorelai's

Robyn had the sweet suggestion of getting the kids together one morning (since they are both down to one nap a day yay!) for some art fun. Great idea but we both figured the art part probably wouldn't be a huge hit. When Kye and I got there she got out the finger paints and some paper bags and we let the kids go to town! I knew from Kye's recent finger-painting "experience" that he wouldn't be too involved with it but we tried. At least Lorelai loved it!

One of the few times Kye bothered even touching the paint
Lorelai was a little pro!
After painting got old (as in 5 min later) we let them get cleaned off and play in the little kiddie pool they have. It was good fun until Kye got hold of their water hose and sprayed Lorelai in the face haha! So that one did last too long either! Finally Popsicles were what made everyone happy and passed the most time. Robyn had these Pedialyte Freezer Pops which were awesome because the kids enjoyed them and they help keep them hydrated in the South GA heat! Kye may not have loved the finger painting but he went to TOWN on that popsicle :)
You gotta drink the "juice" at the end!
While Robyn fixed lunch I entertained Kye and Lorelai in Lorelai's room. They semi-played together but are still at an age where they play near each other but each do their own thing. At one point they did both climb into her chair and Kye tried to get Lorelai to give him a high five. When he realized she wasn't having it he tried to teach her how to do it :)

"c'mon give me just one high-five?"
"see you open your hand and put it on my hand"
"just like this"
For lunch Robyn sliced up some apple and Kye LOVED it! I think it's time to convince Zach that Kye can handle some "big boy" bites of things (is this a bit of foreshadowing perhaps?). We still cut everything up super small b/c he's paranoid about choking for some reason.

Kye is man enough to wear a pink bib :)
We left after lunch as they live about 30 min away and I didn't want to risk Kye falling asleep in the car and ruining his nap! It was a fun morning for Kye to get to play with one of his girl friends and for me to catch up with one of my mommy friends too :) I'll be sad when Robyn goes back to work as we'll miss out on these fun weekday get-togethers!

A Day With Aunt Casey

While Zach and I were off to St. Simon's for the day for the Aflac cookout Casey volunteered to watch Kye. With him being down to one nap a day it's soooo much easier for someone to watch him!!! I know the older he gets the easier (and more fun) it'll be for other people to keep him which is a blessing for sure. I always feel bad having a mile long list of things to be sure to do and schedules to be sure to follow and slowly that list is getting shorter and schedule is getting simpler. I left Casey with an extra camera and told her if she wanted to write a guest blog entry she was more than welcome! I love having guest writers because I feel like down the road it'll be neat for Kye (and all the other kids someday) to see things from someones perspective other than mine and be able to "remember" back on fun times with other people than just mommy. Enjoy Casey's guest entry about her day with Kye!

Sooo this is my first time blogging ever and I am honestly a little nervous that this won't be interesting at all! But I did have a very eventful day with Kye so there is lots to talk about!

When Emily asked me if I would watch Kye on Saturday while they went to their AFLAC thing I was super excited because I have never watched Kye by myself and I knew it would be a good bonding day for us! Well it was really good bonding but it was OUTSIDE bonding because that's where Kye wanted to be ALL day long! So we started off our day with, of course, a nice long golf cart ride. We went to see the goats, but Kye was more interested in keeping moving than actually looking at the goats. We also made a trip down to Big Daddy's barn where we got to see Aunt Mary. After more riding we finally came in for lunch!

So after lunch I decided to try and distract Kye from running to the door to go outside, I really had no idea how much he LOVES it, by some coloring time! I actually did most of the coloring because he wanted to play with the crayons by putting them back in the box. Kye did make a few marks and then I made a bunch of scribbles that looked like Kye's work so I could put it up on the fridge! (its still up there) haha

After Kye woke up from his nap we had some pool time, by that I mean the kiddie pool in the back yard. I know that Kye loves the water so I reapplied the sunscreen pretty heavy because I really thought he would want to stay in for the rest of the day! Well it didn't last as long as I thought, about 30 min, but we did have a lot of fun, especially playing with the water hose. I love how Kye laughs at himself, it sooo cute, he did that a lot in the pool with the hose. After he had enough with the pool he wanted to play in the grass and run down the hill to play with the dogs, they were at the house too! I thought playing in the grass was fine until I saw a fire ant walking across Kye's forehead (sorry Em, I didn't tell you about that) lol. That's when I decided we should take a break from the outside for awhile.

Our outside break didn't last very long and we ended up going back outside until right before dinner. We did some quick bowling with this play bowling set and it was awesome how Kye just wanted to kick down all the pins! Probably because they made a really loud noise.  Then we ate dinner and Emily told me I could give him a treat after dinner so I could be the "cool aunt", which I feel like I'm gonna play that role anyway for sure! : ) I gave him some Key Lime Cheesecake that we had leftover, and I know this is hard to believe but after he tried the cake he looked up at me and said "Thank you Aunt Casey!" I PROMISE he said it soo clear. I freaked out, because he hadn't ever said my name before! After my initial excitement I was kinda mad because no one else was there so I knew no one would believe me! After bath time I read him a few books before I put him down for bed. Emily said that this would be the best time of the day and it really was especially because I felt closer to him after our whole day together!

Overall I was really happy about how the day went. I wanted to do a lot of fun things so Kye would really enjoy himself and I think he really did, especially the golf cart riding! I was also really impressed with how Emily didn't call 100 times or anything to check on us, it really made me feel like she trusted me with him and that made me happy! I really hope that I get more days like this with Kye, it really was special and made me feel a lot closer to him!

Our first of many golf cart rides for the day
Aunt Mary was super excited to see Kye (and she's making an awesome face)
More Golf Cart riding!
Kye and My joint coloring effort!
Playing with the water hose! I love his face in this one!
This is Kye's hair after I attempted to put sunscreen on his head. I want sure if I was supposed to or not but I thought it made for an awesome hairstyle.
Action Shot on the golf cart. You can really tell this is where we spent most of our time!
"Thank you Aunt Casey"!!!
Ready for bed after a long eventful day!
While I may not always act like I enjoy living in Valdosta, having family close by is very handy when you have children :) I always appreciate how willing Mrs. Charlotte is to drop everything and keep Kye when we need her too and I was SO glad Casey in town to keep him when Mrs. Charlotte couldn't! I thought she'd have a fun time and it sounds like she did...he's at a super fun age and I'm glad his schedule is easier now so that other people can have a chance to keep him and bond with him! "Thank you Aunt Casey!"

Duck Bucks Day

Several months back Zach's regional manager with Aflac ran a contest where agents could win "Duck Bucks" for meeting certain goals. Then everyone who earned "Duck Bucks" could spend them at an auction type thing at her home in St. Simons. Two Saturdays ago Casey babysat Kye (post to come by Casey herself!) so we could go to St. Simons. Since Mr. Rusty is now working with Aflac he and Mrs. Charlotte went along to the cookout too.

The whole day was a pretty great time as Zach and I got some alone time in the car on the ride there (as parents you take what you can get of alone time and don't complain!) and the ride home. AND since we knew Kye was in good hands we took our time coming home and went to see Inception (in case you're wondering it's the BEST MOVIE EVER! My old fav was Memento and I think Inception took over that #1 spot on my list!). It was a good day! Even the cookout was fun and I bonded quickly to the hostess's daughter, who was nine. She followed me everywhere and I loved it. I need a daughter.

When it came time for the auction the "Duck Bucks" were handed out and Zach had earned the most. He had like $800 worth :) The auction was super fun and he ended up with some great stuff. A garden wagon/wheelbarrow thing, a set of pliers, 2 nice beach chairs, $150 in cash, 2 lanterns for our new house someday (which was the ONE thing I wanted and he totally didn't win for me but some lady felt sorry for me and traded them for another thing Zach won haha), and a new camera (it's a Kodax EasyShare M530 12 mexapixels which I'm going to sell on Ebay unless someone is interested?)! Pretty awesome huh? It was a fun day and any day with free stuff is always a good one!
Kye enjoyed the free rides around the house!
Gotta love working for a company where you are paid what you're worth (not what someone thinks you're worth) AND have the opportunity to win some great contests too! Yay for Aflac!

Fun with the Megow Girls

Kye's had plenty of play dates with other children and it's always a nice time to let the kids play so us moms can talk :) However, I've never had any kids over to play with Kye without their parents. I know when I used to babysit I felt awkward when the parents were home and always had a better time once they left! It's similar with other people's children. Of course I love catching up with my mommy friends but when they are here with their children I don't really interact with the kid that much. I'm focused on Kye, they are focused on their child ya know? It's even awkward at times because what if their kid misbehaves? It's like do I say something or wait for their mom to make the move?

Two Fridays ago Crissy asked if I could keep the girls for her because she had a dr. appointment for baby Titus (she's scheduled for delivery on August 5th!) and of course I said yes! I was excited to see how Kye would do with sharing his toys and his mommy's attention. It was only for a little over an hour or so which was nice because I got to play-play-play without real responsibilities haha.

right from the start Kye loved Neela's shoes
I think we need to invest in some Crocs (but not in pink of course)
Neela loved Kye's table!
at first the girls stuck together, safety in numbers ;)
Stevie picked out some toys for me to bring down from the closet
I was so pleased to see how well Kye shared!!!
the turtle was a hit
Stevie kept saying it was for "babies only"
and the "babies" sure did love it, maybe too much
Stevie really, really loved Kye's farm
she got a little possessive about it
trying to play golf with three toddlers was not a good idea so it didn't last long but Neela liked the club for a chew toy
the only one I could get of the three of them together!
Kye talking on the phone
then having Neela talk
both of them talking (I can just see this being fast forward to 7th grade and calling each other every night!)
It was a SUPER fun time! Kye had a blast and I know the girls did too because Stevie melted when it was time to go :) I'm sure ALL of you totally want me to watch your kids now because I take pictures every second so you don't miss a thing!
